By serving other people you can get everything you\u2019ve ever wanted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Persuade the persuadable<\/strong> &#8211; Prospecting the people that are persuadable and narrow.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Context &amp; timing matter<\/strong> \u2013 I can persuade anyone given the right context and timing. People need to be in the right state of mind to absorb the content. Check out the Stanford Prisoner Guard experiment.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prisonexp.org\/\">http:\/\/www.prisonexp.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>You have to be Interested to be Persuaded<\/strong> \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0At any given moment 90% of time you are thinking about the selves: <strong>Money, Love, Health<\/strong> The art of\u00a0persuasion\u00a0is the art of talking about the other person. &#8220;Never talk about yourself, unless you are asked.\u201d When we say the things with our months about what the are thinking in their head, you instantly have trust.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> \u00a0Reciprocity Compels<\/strong> \u00a0\u2013 We are compelled to reciprocate once we accept\u00a0something. &#8221;\u00a0It is part of our evolutionary DNA to help each other out to survive as a species.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong> \u00a0Persistence Pays <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Lincoln ran for office 12 times before winning his first office. The person who is willing to keep asking for what they want, and keeps demonstrating value, is ultimately the most persuasive.\u00a0Think about the movie,\u00a0\u201cShaw shank\u00a0redemption\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Compliment Sincerely<\/strong> \u00a0&#8211; Read &#8220;How to win friends and influence people.\u201d The lessons work!\u00a0We are all so positively affected by compliments, and we\u2019re more apt to trust people for whom we have good feelings. \u00a01. Make it habitual, 2. Be\u00a0sincere, 3. Give a compliment they typically they don\u2019t get.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>Set Expectations &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Much of persuasion is managing other\u2019s expectations to trust in your judgment. Think about the movie,\u00a0\u201cLife is Beautiful\u201d. Persuasion is about expectation and how you deliver against the\u00a0expectations.<em> &#8220;The most successful persuasive people set expectation and then over deliver.<\/em>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Don\u2019t Assume <\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0\u201cLet them make the decision when you persuade, it\u2019s your job to offer\u00a0the value.\u201d People will find the time and money to do the things\u00a0they want. Don\u2019t ever assume what someone needs, always offer your value.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Create Scarcity \u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 &#8220;People want things they can\u2019t have.\u201d\u00a0Besides the necessities to survive, almost everything has value on a relative scale. \u00a0We want things because other people want these things.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Create Urgency \u00a0\u2013 <\/strong>\u201cPeople think about what they want to do today, you need to create urgency today.\u201dYou have to be able to instill a sense of urgency in people to want to act right away. If we\u2019re not motivated enough to want something right now, it\u2019s unlikely we\u2019ll find that motivation in the future.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"12\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Image(s) Matter \u00a0<\/strong>\u2013\u00a0\u201c80% Most of us are visual learners\u201d. Great example is drug\u00a0commercial, the images are beautiful, but the words are terrible\u00a0\u201cinstant brain explosion\u201d.\u00a0What we see is more potent that what we hear.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"13\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Truth-Tell <\/strong>\u2013\u00a0\u201cLook a person in the eye and tell the truth.\u201d\u00a0Sometimes the most effective way to persuade somebody, is by telling them the things about themselves that nobody else is willing to say. \u00a0The mindset is \u201cWhat are you pretending not to know\u201d. Especially if it\u2019s from a mindset of love and support.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"14\">\n<li><strong>Build Rapport<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0We like people who we are like. \u00a0This extends beyond our conscious decisions to our unconscious behaviors.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Learn more about\u00a0Neuro-Linguistic Programming\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/richardbandler.com\/\">http:\/\/richardbandler.com\/<\/a>\u00a0For example, it\u2019s mirroring and matching them. (e.g. If they cross their leg, you cross their leg)<\/p>\n<ol start=\"15\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Behavioral Flexibility (Gives you Control)\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0\u201cThe best example of this is your kids\u201d. They have a\u00a0plethora\u00a0of options to flex (e.g.\u00a0Crying, \u00a0holding breath, etc).\u00a0It\u2019s the person with the most flexibility, not necessarily the most power, who\u2019s in control.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"16\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Learn to Transfer Energy<\/strong>\u2013 &#8220;People that are persuasive gives energy to others&#8221; (e.g.\u00a0Look in their eye, smile, touch a person hold for 2 second longer, then say the\u00a0persuasive\u00a0message).\u00a0Some people drain us of our energy, while others infuse us with it. \u00a0&#8220;<em>Don\u2019t be an energy vampire.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"17\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Communicating Clearly is Key<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0\u201cLess is more, be simple and clear.\u201d\u00a0If you can\u2019t explain your concept or point of view to an 5th grader, such that they could explain it with sufficient clarity to another adult, it\u2019s too complicated.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"18\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Being Prepared Gives you the Advantage <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0\u201cBe prepared, know your audience, specific stories and information. \u201d\u00a0Your starting point should always be to know more about the people and situations around you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"19\">\n<li><strong>Detach and Stay Calm in Conflict <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0\u201cDisassociate from emotion, don\u2019t let people get you angry.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0In situations of heightened emotion, you\u2019ll always have the most leverage by staying calm, detached and unemotional.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"20\">\n<li><strong>Use Anger Purposefully<\/strong> &#8211; Most people are uncomfortable with conflict.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"21\">\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Confidence and Certainty <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0There is no quality as compelling, intoxicating and attractive as certainty. \u00a0It is the person who has an unbridled sense of certainty that will always be able to persuade others.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Find all the details: <strong>Forbes, 21 Principles of Persuasion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jasonnazar\/2013\/03\/26\/the-21-principles-of-persuasion\/\">http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jasonnazar\/2013\/03\/26\/the-21-principles-of-persuasion\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attend a great talk by Jason Nazar at QB Connect on the topic: \u201c21 Golden Rules on How to Persuade People\u201d The Basics: Persuasion is NOT manipulation &#8211; Persuasion is the science and art of getting someone to do something that is simultaneously in their and your best interest.
